The Miseducation of Me...

Saved

Growing up, you use to say

 “We are Royalty

Gold and King!”

You were trying to tell us about our lineage, that the secret to who we really were, lay hidden in the depth of your maiden name ‘Golding’

But being ‘British born’ and

schooled as we were

we arrogantly dismissed

Your Jamaican rhetoric,

your wisdom,

Proverbs

and old sayings

With

“Don’t be so stupid

You don’t know anything

And anyway, that’s not what our teacher thinks

And that’s not what our text books say!

And do what do you know anyway?

So, I’m sorry, cause

we were miseducated

Indoctrinated, conditioned, brain washed

And confused.

So, confused that even when you told us the possibility of an afro-centric truth

We dissmissed you

as if you didn’t have any sense...

What a dishonor and disrespect, when all you wanted for us, was to have a good education...
